Golden Rules of Doubles No.2

Where to Stand

Court position refers to your distance from the net and to the distance between partners in any given situation. Technically there are only two positions on the court one offensive and one defensive. The goal is for both partners to achieve one of those positions simultaneously, so the entire court is well protected. Attaining the offensive court position is the primary goal in every point. The defensive court position is forced upon you by your opponents.
One up – one back
This is the classic starting position where the back player is trying to probe with deep ground strokes to find the right ball to come forward to join the partner in a staggered position.
The stagger is where one partner is slightly in front of the other. When both players are at net this gives the front player opportunity at the middle ball and makes it easier for the back player to track down and defend against the lob

Staggered formation will allow the front player to be more aggressive knowing their partner can help with the lob. Especially important against opponents who love to lob. Covering the two easiest shots will have your opponents trying for smaller targets to beat you.
